O. THOMPSON, President, Oxford, Ohio. tpencjth And Hociltlx He Claims that he has been Unjustly Treated, and Should be Released from the Pen. Arthur Spencer, the lion who was sentenced to serve five years in the penitentiary by Judge W. E.

Evans, of this county, for larceny, and who has now served about three years of his time, has broken out again in a letter, ad dressed to Judge Evass, of the court of common Pleas, of Franklin township. Spencer wrote a rather sensational letter to Judge Evans about a year ago, which, for consummate gall. has never been parallelled in the Ohio penitentiary. His latest freak in letter writing is given as follows, he complaining of his imprisonment: "My attorney erred in several in stances. In the first place, he stated that I had, in all piobability, been addicted to dissipation, and had for i associates, people of a dissipated class, who had, in all probability lea me astray.

JNow, sir, this is entirely erroneous from the fact that. an animal trainer who was dissipated could not hope to have control over a wild animal 20 minutes, and as a matter of fact, I have never 1 i for v-mhlino-. hav nnt fm.nh.! a card for ten years, except for iuno cent amusement. "My attorney also said that I had been with small variety troopes touring the country, while the only people I was with were Forepaugh, Barnum, Sells Brothers and Kohl Middleton, all standard parties, with whom I bear a good reputation. "My attorney assured me if I pleaded guilty I would receive the lowest sentence, one year, and under that impression I pleaded guilty, and received a sentence that dazed mp.

Taking everything into consideration, I feel that I have been unjustly treated." Spencer passed off for a white mau while in the county jail, but it was ascertained that he was an oc-teroon and that his mother was a munter of the colored demi-monde, at Wheeling, W. and that she ran a fence" there. Spencer's criminal training was in a good school. The Wish Gratitied. You have often wished for something take the pla'ce of pills.

Tin; storm spent itself in Illinois. Mii.waikkk. July s. As a result of Sunday night's storm the only reliable means of quick communication Monday morning was the long-distance telephone. The Western Union lines, as well as those of the Postal and the Chicago and Milwaukee Telegraph were prostrated to such an extent that, aside from the telephone, the railroad trains were about the best substitute available to move llie staggering accumulation of commercial messages and press dispatches.

From about 6 p. m. Sunday, all through theniphtand well into the business day Monday, the telegraph officials seemed utterly helpless to straig-hten out the confusion and wreck. So apparently inextricable was the tansrle that matter offered to the Western Union at outside points for Milwaukee aDd other points north, was returned to the senders, owing to prostration of the wires. The situation was a forcible reminder of the results of the great blizzard in New York, in which Roscoe Conkling lost his life and in which the telegraph companies were brought to a standstill, the single avenue of electric communication being- left to the long distance telephone.

So, action was speedy. The resignation of the old board of directors was handed in, read, and the old board disbanded, whereupon the purchasers elected a board of directors, composed of all the gentleman referred to as constituting the purchasers, and then proceeded to elect Mr. Alexander Renick president. As a matter of fact, Mr. Cochenonr said that the marriage was made without the knowledge of Miss Counts parents, and that it was not intended that they should know it lor several days, but, as far as the statement that be married ber perforce, and then ran away to get rid of her was concerned, tbere was nothing in it.
